Buzz…..

Well: one keyboard, a number of finger-tip blisters and very nearly a psychotic episode later it looks like the explosion of activity we experienced here yesterday is coming to an end. I only arrived 3 weeks ago but i’ve been very much thrown in (or should that be drowned) at the deep end. There’s something special about Indigo. It positively hums with excitement, thrust and energy. Very rarely is there a quiet moment and certainly never a dull one.

L’Ile de la Rèunion

Keeping up the French theme, we have a client that wants us to ship to L’Ile de la Rèunion (Reunion Island). History was more my forte than Geography, so a look at the CIA fact book reveals that the island is in fact in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. It sounds like a fascinating place:

The Portuguese discovered the uninhabited island in 1513. From the 17th to the 19th centuries, French immigration, supplemented by influxes of Africans, Chinese, Malays, and Malabar Indians, gave the island its ethnic mix. The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 cost the island its importance as a stopover on the East Indies trade route.

I know we tell clients we ship anywhere in the world, but this French colony is the remotest we have ever done.

Hot and Busy Monday

What a mental day! Richard (aka Dickie) has been beavering away in the nook where his desk is, the phone plastered to his ear, fingers whirring over a smoking keyboard.

May and June are apparently the busiest time for the promotional clothing industry and combined with the 30-degree temperature, and sub-standard air conditioning system on the 8th floor of Bucklersbury House, we’re pretty fried today.

French T-shirts

Just been to France at the weekend to see Joo (Julia), our original client services co-ordinator. She is working at a Le Chateau d’Ebblinghem looking after English school children. Two cars, nine people, long lunches, wine, volleyball and laughter - a great weekend was had by all. Will have some photos soon I hope.

On the subject of France, it is worth checking out LaFraise, a cool t-shirt site that Loic, the blogging guru at Six Apart, flagged up. Also read the interview with the owner.

Well designed clothing websites

An article about the new look Joules website and how well they are doing was an interesting find and reinforces my view that clean design combined with lots of information is the way forwards to selling garments on the web.

There are very few well-designed websites that sell clothing. In fact if you come to think of it there are few well-designed e-commerce websites. John Lewis is an excellent example of a high street retailer whose website is extremely attractive and usable.

Happy 3rd Birthday

It has been three years now since Indigo Clothing Ltd. was officially born at Companies House. The team celebrated over lunch then back to the office for a hard days work.

It seems that Mondays are always the busiest days. I image it is because people have been browsing the site over the weekend then wait until Monday before getting in touch.

It is all very exciting. Happy days! Time for a cold beer.

The fascinating people who buy t-shirts

I have just had a meeting with a the tatooist of one of the world’s most famous footballers. It made me stop and think about the broad mix of people I end up meeting as part of this job. I have a client who was part of the SAS team that stormed the Iranian embassy and I have a client who has a small sandwich shop in Great Yarmouth. Very different people with very different business but they both want our clothes.

Never in my dreams when Indigo Clothing was setup nearly three years ago did I think that I would come into contact with such a wide range of interesting and exciting people.

At a seminar the other evening I had two people, on finding out what Indigo does, gush about how great it must be to make custom t-shirts. I was a bit taken back by their enthusiasm and it reminded me how important it is to keep taking stock of our progress and how lucky I am do be be doing what I am doing and meeting the people I am meeting.

Indigo is a fun dynamic company and it will stay that way. This blog is another way for us to keep communicating with our friends and will be an insight into what we love doing.
