I’ll wear black until they make something darker

Mrs J. O. wrote to us with this request:

I was looking for the t-shirt with this saying. My husband had said he liked it and I wanted to buy it for him. I’m not even sure I have the right website or anything. He had just told me what the shirt had said. Do you carry this t-shirt, is it available, what is the price . . . . If this is not one of your products, do you know where I could find it. I’d really appreciate it if you would email with some information. Thanks and have a good day!

If someone could help her out, that would be nice.

Teaser: New Brands for 2007

Our suppliers are gearing up to spice up their product offerings in 2007, and at this time of year we are seeing a raft of press releases and announcements in the trade press. We are looking forward to launching Callaway (golf), Canterbury (rugby) and 2 new organic brands (Epona and Okarma) on the Indigo site in the near future, all of which will be available in small and bulk quantities.

It is great to see more premium brands join the promotional apparel market, with Slazenger and Adidas now having established themselves over the past few years. Indigo also work closely with Helly Hansen Workwear division and will be offering Crew Clothing (casual sailing wear) in 2007 too, to ensure that we are offering our clients some of the best high-end brands that can be fully branded with screen printing or embroidery.

Organic Development

Sorry to keep harping on about ethical and organic clothing but as our little industry goes this (along with direct-to-garment printing, which is a whole other story) is the most disruptive force in the market place at the moment.

In the next few days we’ll let you know more about Continental exciting foray into the ‘eco-arena’ but in the meantime, SAF announced they will be the first trade supplier certified to Soil Association standard.

SAF continues to increase its range of products with the addition of raglan sweatshirts in December. Available in black and atlantic blue, in sizes S – XL, these sweats are 280gsm 100% organic cotton and as soon as we have more product specs we’ll be putting them on the catalogue.

Organic beats beer and cigarettes

…or so the headline goes on the BBC News today. Apparently retail sales in the UK of beer and cigarrettes are £28bn whilst the amount spent on ethical products hit £29.3bn ($56.7bn) in 2005, the Co-operative bank states. However most of the ethical spend relates to food and energy products and the article points out that ethical product only makes up a small proportion of the consumer shopping basket.

Indigo continues to support ethical promotional products and offers organic cotton clothing and recycled merchandise.

Promotional Weight Garments

Vic, who is working with Indigo as part of her sandwich year for her Business Studies degree at the University of Brighton, has uploaded a raft of Stedman products to the Promotional Weight category on the product catalogue. These garments represent excellent value for money and are ideal for high-volume orders or promotional give-aways as the unit cost is some of the lowest we have come across in the industry and without any apparent compromising of quality.

We have mentioned Stedman on the blog before, a range made by Hanes, one of the large US suppliers. However, just because these items are cheap, doesn’t mean they have been made in a sweatshop. This statement comes from the business ethics page on the Hanes site:

  • Hanes and Stedman wish to promote the welfare not only of customers, but of any life they touch in the countries and communities in which they operate.
  • As a socially responsible citizen Hanes complies with all applicable laws and regulations, treats all employees fairly, with dignity and respect, and is committed to their health and safety.
  • Hanes bans harmful substances and complies with the strict ecological criteria set by the Oeko-Tex standard.
  • Hanes conducts business with those suppliers only who share the corporation’s commitment to its high standards of business ethics.

It is good to see the big US mills staying on top of the ethical concerns of consumers.

We like thank you letters

This came through today. Makes us feel kind of warm and fuzzy:

Hi Victoria and Eleni,

Just a belated thank you for getting the rugby shirts done on time and delivered early, which was a huge relief to all of us!

All the choir members were delighted with the fit and good quality of the shirts and we all wore them with pride to the Choir of the Year Adult Finals in Cardiff on November 11th. Take a look on our website as there’s a great photo of our inaugural outing in them at the bottom of the welcome page: www.chantage.org

They certainly helped with a feeling of team spirit on the day and it was great to see some of our supporters wearing them, especially when we were announced as winners of the competition!

We’ll be going down to Cardiff for the Grand Final on the 10th December but highlights of both finals will be on BBC4 on 16th December and they filmed us a lot in our shirts so you may see them on TV!

I’ve got a number of supporters who’ve requested shirts so I will be in touch fairly soon with another order, but wanted to thank you now for all your help.

Best wishes,

Alex.

Choir Manager - Chantage Limited.

Ugh! Somehow I think there must be a glitch in their bulk emailing engine! How they found us for searching ‘Google for nail fungus’ is beyond me. The irony is that now I have written this post, we will now rank for nail fungus.

Innocent Hats

Innocent Smoothies

Every winter, Innocent, one of Indigo’s clients, raise money for charities that help elderly people stay warm during the winter by having a ‘Supergran’ knitting contest. They knit lots of little woolly hats and stick them on their smoothie bottles. For each behatted bottle sold, 50p is donated to their chosen charity Age Concern. Their Supergran2006 Flickr group shows the hats and the knitters in all their glory. You can help too - just knit hats and send them in. More details at: http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/supergranThe hats in the photo above were knitted by Jo’s friend Celia, whilst the smoothies and other goodies were a prize at the Indigo party last month.
