Contiental going 100% Organic

Latest news in from one of our coolest brands, Continental:

Continental have purchased 750 tonnes of ‘100% organic cotton - in conversion’, which is due to be harvested in October. Thereafter, from November onwards, all Continental 100% cotton garments will be manufactured using either 100% organic, or 100% organic - in conversion. Continental will be the first major wholesale manufacturer to do this, and the implications for other apparel manufacturers are huge.

Phil (Director of Continental) said “This is a major step towards going 100% organic – and by developing lasting & sustainable relationships with organic cotton farmers, we ensure our future supply of organic cotton in a time when demand might exceed supply.

Threadless Store: Chicago

Threadless

Online t-shirt wizards Threadless have opened a cool looking retail store in Chicago, IL. They’ll launch new tees every Friday and I think it is great idea that their brand has crossed over from the online retail sphere to the bricks-and-mortar one. From the photos it looks like the store has maintained the same quirkiness as their notorious website.

More from the Threadless team:

Why a store? A zillion reasons. Most of them revolve around ideas we come up with for giving back to the Threadless community and not having the staff, resources, venue or time to make happen. Ideas like teaching design classes, hosting galleries with Threadless artist’s work, having real-world group critiques and other various events.

Great stuff!

Bye Bye Eskimo

Essi

Well… the time has sadly come for us to wave off our favourite Finnish Floozy.. Eskimo! Since starting at Indigo well over a year ago, Essi’s English has now progressed into a fully fledged cockney accent. She is also familiar with numerous street slang such as ‘biiiiatch‘ and ‘home boy‘. Excellent for a customer service job! Only jokin’ Essi!

But in all seriousness, Essi will be missed greatly. No more diet coke breaks, no more men hating sessions and no more smuggling wine up into the office! Good times!

We all want to wish Essi all the best with her travels, please keep in touch, drop us a postcard from any exotic locations you find yourself in, and enjoy the good times!

A few tips for your Aussie travels:

1. Wine in boxes/goon bags are cheap and nasty, but a must, plus the bags can be blown up and used as travel pillows.. bonus!
2. Learn to like instant noodles.
3. Take some ear plugs for use in hostels, self explanatory really!
4. When in Melbourne you really MUST visit the set of Ramsay Street Neighbours! Then go to the evening party and dance around to Dr Karl’s rock band!
5. Experience the greatest invention of all time… the DRIVE THRU bottle shops!!! AMAZING creation!
6. If you are going to steal food from other people in hostels, make sure there are no cameras! You may think you won’t do this, but when you come back drunk after a night out, someone’s mouldy bread and plastic cheese may be very appealing!
7. Cock-sucking cowboy shots. Delightful.
8. Beat the bartender - rock-paper-scissors for your drinks in backpacker bars - could save you a few bucks! Plus $5 dollar steak dinners!
9. Get a green Coles or Woolworths bag - they are sooooo useful!
10. Hang around Bondi/Manly for some hunky surfer hotties!

But most of all… have fun and keep in touch!!!!

Lots of love

Office Move: Part 1- Provost Street

Provost-09

The blog has been posted to in sporadic fits and bursts over the past month and for that I must hold my hands up and say mea culpa, but as some of you may already know, we have just moved into new offices on Provost Street (London), N1, and trust me, managing an office move is no small task (though relatively smooth compared to the story one of our embroiderers told us where, when they moved from their last place, their embroidery machine wouldn’t fit through the door so they had to demolish a wall!).

Our first day in the new Indigo Clothing ‘gaff’ was yesterday, Monday 3rd September, a date that has ominously been circled red on my calendar for over a month. I still can’t believe we actually made it! It has been an epic effort to get everything organised and to get the new office fitted out. The new space has that clichéd, loft-conversion look: stripped wood floors, exposed brick and exposed cable trunking and is so much cooler than the ageing Bucklersbury House, that has been our home in the City since we moved down from Cambridge.

So what have we changed in the new place? Well we have taken on much more space as we are expanding. We’ve opted for Hunter ceiling fans rather than air con., so we would consume less power (good for the environment, good for the bank account). We have 20:1 ADSL. We went for VOIP rather than using a PBX phone system and BT. We have opted for bigger sample storage space, a chunky IT/comms. cabinet and screen-printed posters sent via the States from Iso50 and The Small Stakes on the white painted walls. We have ten bonsai trees and have raided Ikea and Habitat for some neat fixtures and fittings. Apple AirTunes streams our music. A definite improvement.

If you don’t know the area, I have posted some photos on my Flickr and I’ll definitely be following up this post with more talk of the neighbourhood and photos of the inside of the new office. A big thank you goes out to all those who volunteered their time to help us move, especially Bill, Andy, John, Gary and his lad, and Dominic and his crew. So in case you don’t yet know it, our new address is:
