Agyness Deyn - the supermodel to watch

agynes- in holland

My name is Antoinette and I’m a multi-media textiles student from Loughborough University. I’m here with the team at Indigo on a work-shadow placement for the day, to find out how the company works! My task is to write the blog for today, so here goes!!

The supermodel Agyness Deyn is the latest supermodel to be splashed across the headlines and glossy magazines. Henry Holland fashion designer of the brand ‘House of Holland’ and Agyness’s best friend has already collaborated with her to model his famous slogan T-shirts (Jo wrote a blog about this previously). This is a partnership to watch, Holland confirmed a new range of jewellery is to be released, he said, ‘We’re going to launch a line of jewellery together. You can expect a bit of House of Holland and a bit of Aggy too.’

Agyness has recently replaced Kate Moss for top position in Tatler magazine annual best dressed list. This could be a controversial award seeing as she sports a loud punk style, she describes her style, ‘When I started, I was very boyish- punkish. Now I think I’ve gone a bit lady punk.‘(style.com, Sept 2007) However, rightly or wrongly awarded the top spot for this award, you do have to admire her individuality when it comes to fashion! It takes a lot of confidence to turn up to the 2008 Elle Style awards dressed in Punk!

Shortcuts in action on your blog. Sadly offer is only open to US residents so us Brits miss out. However, I don’t know if we really want another t-shirt in the office anyway!

Helsinki, 2007

Team Indigo

The Indigo Clothing team, set off from our Old Street office (sadly minus Opal) for our annual sales and marketing conference, on a cold December Friday evening. This year’s venue was Helsinki, capital of Finland and home country of Essi (our old client services co-ordinator, who left us this winter to go travelling in Australia and Thailand) and we left the office in a jubilant and Christmassy mood. Little did we know that dramas would start occuring within 20 minutes of leaving!

It all started when we were sitting on the Piccadilly Line, comparing silly passport photos when Matt, Indigo’s inhouse web developer, realised he had left his passport on his desk! Jo dispatched him from the train with concise travel instructions and via the miracle of the Heathrow Express, Matt managed to join us in Terminal One with just 5 minutes to spare!

However, he need not have rushed after all. Three hours later, we were still sitting on the tarmac, the plane having broken down and we finally made our way into a deserted Helsinki airport at 0230! Feeling a little worse for wear, after all the free drinks that evening, we were rudely woken up by a fire-alarm at 1000:

The next day involved a mix of meetings, sleeping, sight-seeing, eating (reindeer based products!) and drinking in some sort of order and suddenly it was over before it started, it was Sunday night and we were flying back to London, with bags stuffed full of Moomin merchandise:

Two days later, the trip seems like a distant memory, except there is a little, hippo like, teddy bear sitting on Jo’s desk, serenely looking over us…

Christmas Closing Dates

Xmas-Jo-Steph

Last date for ordering promotional clothing before Christmas will be Monday 17th December (subject to order size and complexity). If you do need screen printing or embroidery before Xmas, we really do advise you get in touch ASAP.

Indigo have just spent the weekend in Helsinki, Finland, on our annual sales conference and we caught up with Essi, ate Rudolph and got well acquainted with the local fire brigade. Jo (left) and Steph (right) got into the seasonal spirit early at the airport - more hilarious stories and photos to follow!

The office will be closed between Christmas Eve and New Year - back to work on 2nd January 2008.

A Rainy Friday Mourning

Lain2

If any of you are lucky enough (?!) to be my ‘friend’ on facebook, you will notice my status update reads Jo is in mourning. It’s a VERY sad day for us here, Ed summed it up quite well earlier, when during our ‘princess themed’ champagne and cupcake breakfast, when he stated ‘this is not a celebration’. Our beloved Laino (Eleni!) is leaving us today for sunshine, whiskey buckets, monkeys, lady-boys and green curry! Yep.. she’s off to Thailand for a month! The Indigo-go office just wont be the same without her!

Who will we discuss boyfriend problems with over champagne at 9am, listen intently to flirty at ten thirty, laugh at the blonde quotes, create our ‘bleep’ of the month charts and of course, enjoy our diet coke breaks with?!

Lain will also be remembered for insisting ‘this really is my favourite song’ to every song played on the radio!!

While we will all be green with envy, we all wish Lainie safe travels and hope she thoroughly enjoys the new adventure ahead!

And who knows, maybe one day we will be lucky enough to poach her back into the Indigo-go clan! Tickets from Thailand??!?!?!Steph has even promised he will ask Lain out, via flirty at ten thirty of course, so who knows!!!

So Sayonara, Auf Wiedersehen, Arrivederci, Au Revoir, Ciao, Adios and Goodbye! We will miss you loads!

Wedge Card

Indigo accepts Wedge Card

When it comes to paying for your clothing order at Indigo we have always accepted all the usual suspects; Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, even American Express. However, we have added a new card to the list. You can’t pay with it but if you quote its number and it matches your contact details, you’ll get free delivery.

It’s called Wedge.

The Wedge Card is a new way to get discounts and special offers from hundreds of local shops and independent businesses and was the brainchild of John Bird, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Big Issue, and Diana Bird, his daughter. We think it is a good idea and whilst we don’t normally go in for these kind of schemes, this one seems worth supporting and £5 of the £10 purchase price for each Wedge Card sold online will be donated to charity.

To get a Wedge card, which you can use at thousands of other business, other than Indigo, take a look on their site.

Rugby World Cup 2007

Tonight, England play South Africa in what will likely be a crushing defeat for a lacklustre, injury ridden England team against the formidable energy of the ‘Boks’.

When Katie, our work experience girl, came in last month she updated the rugby shirt section of the Indigo site and wrote some words for the blog in honour of the Rugby World Cup which we had yet to publish, until now:

“It’s that time again! The Rugby world cup has arrived for 2007, and Indigo Clothing has a new range of rugby wear. Four years ago England’s exhilarating win over Australia was made by Johnny Wilkinson’s memorable drop-kick goal in the last few seconds of the game. Hopefully this year England will show the same fantastic performance they did four years ago.

Indigo’s range of rugby products range from rugby tops, trousers and bags, from well known makes such as KooGa, Front Row and Canterbury.

England’s first game this year will be on Saturday the 8th of September against the USA. The perfect item to support England through this game would be the KooGa Contrast Performance Shirt available in red and white, the Quartered Rugby Shirt by Front Row is available in England’s famous Red and White colours.

One of the favourites to win this year are the famous All Blacks (New Zealand). This year Indigo has a range of clothing by Canterbury, who come from New Zealand. This clothing would be ideal for supporting them this year. All of our Canterbury tops in out range are available in black…perfect!

It’s day three of my work experience at Indigo, I haven’t lost the business any money which means things are going well! Yesterday afternoon i looked at the accounting side of the company, which sounds boring, but was actually quite interesting. Ed, whose in charge of the accounting, like writing the invoices and stuff, showed my how his job works. This morning I spent a few hours calling back the people who have had samples from Indigo to see of they wanted to place an order, luckily I got through to about half of the people (because the other half wouldn’t answer their phones!). After lunch I put the new range of rugby clothes on the site, check them out!”

Office Move: Part 1- Provost Street

Provost-09

The blog has been posted to in sporadic fits and bursts over the past month and for that I must hold my hands up and say mea culpa, but as some of you may already know, we have just moved into new offices on Provost Street (London), N1, and trust me, managing an office move is no small task (though relatively smooth compared to the story one of our embroiderers told us where, when they moved from their last place, their embroidery machine wouldn’t fit through the door so they had to demolish a wall!).

Our first day in the new Indigo Clothing ‘gaff’ was yesterday, Monday 3rd September, a date that has ominously been circled red on my calendar for over a month. I still can’t believe we actually made it! It has been an epic effort to get everything organised and to get the new office fitted out. The new space has that clichéd, loft-conversion look: stripped wood floors, exposed brick and exposed cable trunking and is so much cooler than the ageing Bucklersbury House, that has been our home in the City since we moved down from Cambridge.

So what have we changed in the new place? Well we have taken on much more space as we are expanding. We’ve opted for Hunter ceiling fans rather than air con., so we would consume less power (good for the environment, good for the bank account). We have 20:1 ADSL. We went for VOIP rather than using a PBX phone system and BT. We have opted for bigger sample storage space, a chunky IT/comms. cabinet and screen-printed posters sent via the States from Iso50 and The Small Stakes on the white painted walls. We have ten bonsai trees and have raided Ikea and Habitat for some neat fixtures and fittings. Apple AirTunes streams our music. A definite improvement.

If you don’t know the area, I have posted some photos on my Flickr and I’ll definitely be following up this post with more talk of the neighbourhood and photos of the inside of the new office. A big thank you goes out to all those who volunteered their time to help us move, especially Bill, Andy, John, Gary and his lad, and Dominic and his crew. So in case you don’t yet know it, our new address is:
