Soul II Soul: “A happy face, a thumpin’ bass, for a lovin’ race.”

The late 80’s, early 90’s music charts were dominated by British band Soul II Soul. Whilst music is what we automatically associate with the chart toppers, T-shirts have in fact been an integral part of the brand since their clothing release back in 1990, with a piece of artwork they had designed in 1979! The ‘Funki Dred logo’ illustrates the ‘do it yourself’ energy of those early sound system days (Jazzie B).

Back then it was quite unusual for fashion and music to combine, obviously nowadays it’s what you come to expect, but what’s special about this range it that it has developed over a longer period, and been re-released at a time when music is probably not what the new generation will associate with Soul II Soul. The full range is now available ay Harvey Nichols, and features iconic images, telling the Soul II Soul story.
