Action for Access: 2nd year student Barry Bridges will be putting his power to the pedal this winter as he attempts a 2000 mile solo bike ride in only 20 days, to raise as much money as possible for Access at Downing College, Cambridge. Indigo Clothing are sponsoring his journey.

To do this, he wants to ask you for your help!:

"Downing College is about to host a group of sixth form students who are visiting Cambridge as part of CUSU's Access "Shadowing" Scheme, designed to encourage people to apply to university. Many students are put off by spiralling tuition fees and accommodation costs, and this is a great chance for them to visit the university, have an amazing time and take part in a range of activities, as well as it being a great chance for us to encourage them to consider applying to university! To do this, we need money, which is where I'm going to try and help:

I want people to sponsor me for my bike ride, to help me reach a target of 1000 pounds, so that together we can show these students just why Downing College is such an amazing college, and why university is such a great place. Although this amount may seem high, it's equivalent to just 50p for every mile I ride, or 1.40 from each person in college. This 1000 pounds will go towards supporting the shadowing scheme, and anything extra will go towards the JCR Target budget for Downing College, to help them in future initiatives designed to encourage students to apply to uni. I want all the students participating in the shadowing scheme to leave Downing having had the best weekend ever, and to this extent I think we should be doing all we can to make their weekend exciting, fun, and free.

It would be amazing if we could all group together and if people could sponsor me for my ride - any amount, no matter how large or small. 1000 pounds is a realistic target to reach, and it would make such a HUGE difference.

I am so lucky to have been given the unique opportunity to study in such a fantastic place, and I firmly believe we should be doing all we can to encourage others to reach for that opportunity as well.
