Gearing up for London 2012 t-shirts, hoodies and the like

With one year to go till the London 2012 Olympics there is certainly an increasing buzz surrounding the games, whether it is the anticipation for the first dive by Tom Daley or a new world record by Usain Bolt, there is certainly a sense that something landmark is around the corner.

The atmosphere at Indigo is no different and was recently helped by a printing job we did for the International Olympic Committee and their Youth Olympic Games. The design received was the logo of the games with the tagline ‘Spirit of Youth Olympic Games’, which highlights how YOG DNA stands for an idea rather than any of the specific games.

Breaking into the fashion industry

Guest post by Hannah Lawrence at Inspiring Interns

Getting a job in the fashion industry is not just about your love of shopping (though that doesn’t hurt). To break into such a competitive industry is tricky business. Living for the style pages, having a monthly subscription to Wonderland and being able to spot a Vivienne Westwood design from a mile off is a good start but to really stand-out in an oversubscribed industry you need that little bit extra on your CV.

Indigo’s FCUK “Sim Dou” Leaves the Team

Simon ‘Sim Dou’ Douay brought many things to the Indigo office during his tenure as our French intern.

Of course there was the obligatory wine and cheese on Friday afternoons that Simon had often sourced from the deepest vaults of his home village in the farthest regions of rural France (slight exaggeration perhaps).  He also introduced the nonchalant continental “yes” to our vocabularies which seems to be both a statement of intent, agreement and closure of the conversation all rolled into one.

Stay On Your Feet T-Shirt

The economy is in a rut. We’ve just had the coldest winter on record. And Cadbury’s Dairy Milk has two less squares. But. Cometh the man. Cometh the moment. Ray ‘STAY ON YOUR FEET’  Wilkins. Last night in the Champions League was billed as the night of big clashes ‘Bale vs. Ronaldo’, ‘Harry vs. Jose’, … Read more

Dreadlocks and Perms, what’s a t-shirt to do?

There are many ways to support your favourite sports team, whether it is getting that season ticket, putting that favourite poster up or even getting a tattoo with the team crest (and explaining to your missus that it will wash off in the morning). However perhaps what remains the most popular way of displaying one’s sports team allegiances is through wearable merchandise. One approach to that is the classic team kit, tried and tested, it is likely to be worn to every match after THAT goal or THAT try. However the alternative has increasingly been various more creative interpretations of team insignia or icons, and this is something Nike has done to perfection.

A Tee Tie For the People?

If you think about it the tie is an odd piece of garment. As far as clothes go it is both physically functionless and a hassle to eat soup with. Not to mention a source of many an embarrassing memories for an inept 16 year old Faisal for whom the intricacies of a ‘Double Windsor’ knot remained elusive for years. Now, I’ll readily admit that this is a straw man argument and that we don’t wear it because of its physical function but rather as an indicator of formal wear, occasion or ‘professionalism’. It has become so accepted in the Western world (and increasingly globally) that the tie is a symbol unto itself.

Vivienne Turns to T-shirt Printing: Comic Relief 2011

Dame Vivienne Westwood. Most definitely the woman of the moment. Whether it is having her Brit Award statuette ushering in a new ‘edgier’ show or not having the foggiest who ‘Style Icon 2011’ Emma Watson is, she’s definitely ‘smashing it’, as Richard Keys would put it. She’s definitely not averse to a bit of attention, … Read more

“i’m leakin’ it”: Wikileaks t-shirt printing and the slogan fallout

This week marks the week that Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, gets the one seal of recognition that any mass marketed self respecting revolutionary leader must gain: the ‘Che’ style t-shirt. Hopefully screen printed and sold in every flea market from Brisbane to Bangalore. From a Wikileaks perspective hopefully not, as they venture into this online merchandise in a bid to find a sustainable source of funding for embarrassing politicians and making sure we know just how much our governments resemble school gossip.
